La canción ha sido escrita y producida por Robert John "Mutt" Lange. Él ya había trabajado con Celine en 1999 con el tema "If Walls Could Talk", que figura en su album ALL THE WAY... A DECADE OF SONGS. Su esposa, una gran artista country y admiradora de Celine, Shania Twain, canta en el tema como voz de fondo.

El videoclip de "Goodbye's (The Saddest Word)" fue dirigido por Chris Applebaum los días 12-13 de Octubre, 2002 en Paris, aprovechando que estaba en dicha ciudad para grabar temas para lo que sería su siguiente album ONE HEART y parte del repertorio de 1 FILLE & A TYPES en francés, Fue lanzada y presentada en Noviembre 24, 2002.

Versión II
En abril 2006, salió a la luz por internet como una segunda versión del video incluyendo imágenes nunca vistas de Celine o imágenes que contaban en principio para el video original. Esas imágenes fueron también rodadas por Chris Applebaum en Octubre 2002 y mostraban escenas sexys de Celine en la bañera.

Pues a pesar de no tener unas muy buenas posiciones, esta cancion es genial!

El parte que nunca salio a la luz (almenos televisado), muestra un lado bastante sexy de Celine [ojos]

Muy bonita, aunque pienso que no debió ser single al ser más bien "íntima", no la veo comercial... y encima al acortar la canción perdió parte de la esencia para mi gusto

YO creo que lo que más falló fue la promoción, aunque en diversos shows de Europa lo ha interpretado. Pero tan afán de ensayar para lo que sería su show de Las VEgas, grabar para ONE HEART, para 1 FILLE & 4 TYPES y olvidarse del tema.
