Just had a killer day in ripping side-off down the line conditions. Really Fun!

Ended the 2011 season last week at Horseneck beach in Logo high sets and started the 2012 season at Kalmus? in Bump and jump conditions. It is all good! This year is going to be a good year as we are starting off with a warm winter (so far).
Video from Horseneck….

Tons of fun with a great turnout check out some of these videos…..
Some raw Clew-View footage….
and some more….
Well it has been a very busy summer but not in my windsurfing world on Cape Cod. The good news is it is less than a month until the AWT Hatteras Wave Jam!!! Stoked beyond beyond!! Wish I had more training time but not going to let that bring me down.
Loving my Panther 3′s!!
Here is a video from one of the few SW wind days we have had this summer…..
It all started down in Baja when Kevin Pritchard shows up on Ezzy’s. As if that is not enough but then he goes out and slams it on the race course.
Then I get word of the American Windsurfing Tour which is re-stoking my fire like gasoline!!!
It is bringing back memories from the 80’s and I am not talking about big hair and break dancing. I’m talking about windsurfing events that were happening on US soil (or I guess I should say water).
It’s April and things are starting to warm up here on Cape Cod. Well going to sail this am so have to go get my Panther 3’s that showed up yesterday ready. Oh and Charlie Sheen can drink all the tiger blood he wants. I am getting juiced on Panther blood!!!
I am bringing my Go-Pro with custom boom mount stay tuned.
It was a great year with some great wave sailing thanks to Hurricane Earl and Hurricane Igor. My buds and I focused more on getting the best conditions and did more driving around and exploring different venues.
We put together a last minute Cape Cod Wave Challenge in October. Banking on a forecast that offered more of a bump and jump/on shore wave contest. It all came together. We had a really great group of sailors that showed up and a windy, sunny day that was a blast. Some really good video and photos were taken and all in all it was a blast!!!
October is my favorite month on Cape Cod!!! Winds are up, water is still warm, parking at beaches is available, you can bring your dog to the beach, crowds are mostly gone, white sharks are starting to head south, frontal passages kicking up some swell…. you get the idea.
October first was warm with a South wind and a decent SE swell making for some good Side-shore sailing. Bring it on!!!
Sept. 20 we were blessed with another hurricane swell from a new hurricane, Igor! With a name like Igor it has to deliver. Things were lining up for what could be a great wave sailing day on Cape Cod. We all decited to head to Nauset Beach (one of the most well known beaches on the Cape). With the wind forecast to be out of the North in the upper 20’s and gusting into the thirties and a good groundswell being sent our way from Igor we were all chomping at the bit. Off to Nauset we went.

I like this shot of Peter between a logo high set with a seal in the water and spectators watching from the beach.

Looks logo high to me.
After sailing my sweet green 4.7m I had to go to my killer blue 4.2m

Nice down the line.

big set backside to get up wind

Backloop coming up short. I face planted on my sail and landed so hard.....

The bloody!!!

For a while we were in the cross hairs of Hurricane Earl. Luckily the track moved east at the last minute and spared us from a direct hit. It passed overnight and the next day(Sept. 4th) was a windy wavey day.
Phone calls were made and we decited to take my boat out to South Beach in Chatham which has been closed indefinitly because of Great White shark sightings right off the beach. The conditions were just to good to pass up.
So we loaded up the MoJo(my boat) and headed out to shark infested waters.
It is a few miles out to South Beach and a bit of a carry from the inside to the outside of the barrier beach but well worth it for side-off waves!

Jerry down the line

Jeff ripping down the line!

Peter ripping down the face of a nice wave

Nice!

All good things must come to an end

This white shark was tagged in July right where we were sailing! They tagged 7 more in August and September. One of them three days before we sailed this day!!!

Good weather, good friends, good wind, good food and good sunsets, what more could you ask for?
Well it’s that time of year again. Two weeks of wind and wild weather in Hatteras. This is our 13th year in a row going to Cape Hatteras in April. It is always fun and always an adventure. We camp at Frisco woods Campground. You can sail right from your campsite and sometimes I mean RIGHT from your campsite. When the wind goes North and cranks the place floods.
Windfest is the 15th,16th & 17th at Frisco Woods. Grass roots gathering of windsurfers with bonfires nightly and the BOARD TOSS one night.
Come check it out!
If anyone is going to be down in Hatteras between the 15th and the 28th and they want to try the Panther II’s come find me at Frisco Woods or look for my big green Ford E-250 with the Chatham Wind and Time logo on the side.

Off da lip...

Out running a close out
I set up my video camera on the dash of my van and just let it run. This is what I came up with. I was the only windsurfer for the fist part of the session. A bunch of other windsurfers showed up after I was done filming.
Went to Block Island ( Small Island off the East Coast) For 5 days in October. Killer 5 days! Had some good wind and waves to ride, good friends, a few beers and some great weather!! We did not get some great pictures because no one wanted to sit on the beach with a camera.
Here is a shot of one ride but we had much better rides than this.

Down the line in side-off wind.

After a short warm up in Etang Salé, the 16 riders of the team contest "La Reunion Wave Classic" had 3 days in a row of intense surfsailing in hardcore conditions on the local spot "Ravine Blanche".

It was not the best wind summer on Cape Cod but I was very busy with work. I guess I should not complain. Better to have to much work these days.
So over the last two weeks Great White sharks have moved into my home sailing spot and are chomping on seals!
Not sure what to do. I know they have always been there but not in these numbers! And to see them in such shallow waters. This is right where we sail most of the time. Not so worried when sailing but if I get crushed by a wave and have to swim for my rig. Sketchy!!!!!!
The first real SW warm and windy day on Nantucket sound. For me nothing beats a 4.7 session. Well ok a 4.7 session in head high waves is best but I will take a 4.7 bump and jump session any day of the week. Check out this video By Jerry Johnson (Sorry for the kite Kooks)

Back on Cape Cod after Hatteras and we are delivered a nice side-sideoff wave day at Coast Guard Beach.

Once again we hit Hatteras the last two weeks of April and it did not disappoint. Good weather, good friends, good laughs= good times!!!
Well it is March 1st and dumping snow here on Cape Cod. I hope the old saying “In like a lion and out like a lamb” holds true for this March. February ended quite mild and we sailed 5.2m on Friday Feb. 27th in 50 degrees F. I sailed 4 days in February. I consider that good for Cape Cod winter sailing. One of those days I met two new hardcore winter Ezzy sailors over on the North shore (Igor & Jaun) also joining us was winter warrior S. Cooper. Igor, Jaun and S. Cooper are three guys that do not let the cold get them down. We sailed in 35-40 deg. air temps and the water must have been in the high 30’s. With sideshore wind and a nice mellow swell it was really a nice session.

Once again we had a great trip to Los Barriles, Baja the last two weeks of January. We scored 10 windy days out of 15 with many of those days 5.3m and under. We stay at the Vela resort and it is such a good seen. Great staff, great sailing and great fun on and off the water. My only complaint is I wish they had Ezzy Sails. Of all the vacations I have been on I find this to be the most relaxing and fun all at the same time. We have met some really nice people there over the years and look forward to seeing those people each year as well as meeting new people.

I received my new Wave Panthers and a few days later we had the best 4.2m wave day of the year here in Chatham, Cape Cod. The wind was NNE which is side/side-on at the Chatham Lighthouse. The waves were logo high with mast high sets. Once on a wave when you turned and went down the line you were out of the wind because the wave was big enough to block the wind. Huge down the line rides and the smoothness of the Panthers made for a killer day!

Vulcan Sept. 6 at Forest beach
October is hands down my favorite windsurfing month on Cape Cod! The water is still warm the tourists are gone and the fronts start rolling through. Day two of the month and we had a killer 4.7 session at Hardings Beach on Nantucket Sound. Sunny and warm. Bring it on!!!

The wind just kept building all day until I was able to hit the water at 3:30. Check out the Graph!! Rigged my all killer orange Ezzy 4.2m and was totally fired up. My good friend Peter Kimball took these pictures from the water with a GoPro Hero Camera. It’s funny how it does not look that windy in the pictures?
We took the doors off my Tercel because it was a hot day on Cape Cod back in 1986. SWEET!!
Those are my first three windsurfing boards. The one on top was a 9′ 6″ WINDSURFER Rocket 96 I have only seen one other I don’t think many were made. The next one down was a Mistral Tarifa 140 liters Transition board. the one on the bottom was a Wayler Chipper my very first board that I sold my Honda ATC 200x to buy.
Historically Mothers day weekend is a windy weekend on cape Cod. This year was no exception. Saturday we sailed 4.7m at the Chatham Light House I should have been on my 4.2m but I stuck it out with the 4.7m because the extra power was well needed punching though the impact zone. The waves were logo high with mast high and better sets. On my first run out I was crushed do to bad timing and had to do a big swim after my gear. I was glad to finally get my gear as the break in Chatham is about 3/4 of a mile off shore. We sailed for two hours with no other mishaps enjoying some full on down the line on mackers.
