AWESOME SUMMER!!!

Hi Friends Sorry for beying away all this time,,I'm starting using Facebook and I was putting all the news there,but its time to refresh my blog. Hi Friends As I did say,, we had last week some crazy days, first day of huracan i had to sail with 3,7 because my 3,3 is broken, the day after was even stronger but i didnt think too much about it and i was straight to LPwindsurf shop to take a borrow 3.3 sail,o my god what a diferent being with 3,7 with this wind is kind of crazy because very hard to hold it.Thanks to LPWindsurf I could ejoy much better the session. Here couple of pics from the first day with the 3,7 super powered up,everybody was with 3,3 or 3,4 was super strong but i manage to take some control with the 3,7, a bit crazy sometimes but I could hold it,, pics taken by a friend, Fernando(Nagui) Thanks mate you are a professional,jeje. I'm unlucky I have not any picture of the day after with the 3.3, I have to say,long time i didnt jump that high,ridiculous.....I had lot of fun.Now is not wind soo we can take a bit of rest.Let's see what is next. Hi Friends As I told you we had few days of rest and then couple of windys days came but really gusty,wind is coming too north and it make the wind in the south east coast be very unstable, I had a very bad sailing because was too chopy the gusty winds and i came out a bit tired of working but i had a nice session anyways just be in water it makes you feel good, Dani Miquel was in the shore taking some pictures also i had some fun together with Victor and Klaas was also around there.This afternoom the wind just turn over to south wind,some people taking some glassy wave at the bunker with the paddlesurf.It look's a very strong high presure its coming for next week,I think we gonna get the first crazy days of summer,will keep you update. WORKING HARD AND SAILING HARD (BOTH IN ONE)

Hello Friends Finally i had some time to upload my blog,,,I'm very busy working hard at my new home,,taking away all garbage,putting new flor in the garden,paiting and many things doing on it,I wanted to take a picture while working but not time for it,it would have been nice to have a photo at work and see myself full of cement,tell you, very funny picture,hahaha,,beside this I had some time to ejoy in the water,last week we have had a few strongs days,not much wave going on but at least some wind to play with. I'm very happy that my knee is getting use to it again,,is soo good go for a botton turn or for a jump and feel not pain,,not really apreciate it this small things untill the injury comes.Now we having some brake but not for to long,,jeje.Last week I saw Klaas Voget around here, Today I saw my ex team mate and friend Victor FDZ around here with his girlfriend,long time i dindn't see him,people starting to come for some training,looking foward to have a couple session with him and a barbacoe for sure.;-) Hope you like the picture. Hello Friends, I just found this video on internet, what a great years for windsurfing,Soo much life, soul and information,the way they bring to the people the mensage to be windsufer,I love it,They were selling windsurfing just an amazing way,not matter if you were windsurfer or not, you watch this video and the only thing you want to do after is go to the beach and try it.jeje I remenber when i was a kid and sail with my father and friends an started doing small Local Racing Championships and I watched this kind of videos all day long to learnd and get the motivation to be one day professional windsurfer,what a great age! We are having a great winter so far,this week has been windy as hell,everyday 3,7 non stop and good size waves,today swell was bigger, up to 3 meters set but wind was lighter than the days before but still really good fun outthere,some good rides,,,,let's see what we get in the next days.

Yesterday was soo much wind here in pozo,,i was looking in my garage for a small sail to sail with and i saw this sail right there,i asked my self ,why not to try it out,,,,with this sail i did my best result ever in competition,soo i decided to rig it up and go for it,9 years old sail and i was sorprised how good it was working to be a 3.3,,,i had a lot of fun untill i broke my footstrap,it was good and fun to remember good times.

Hi Friends

After long time out of the water and doing a right recover my knee is getting much more better, finally!! i'm almost 100% again and im back in water, the last few days has been strange winds and swell but good enougth to get use to it again, i was with 4'7, feeling condident as i was in summer, before i got injured soo is a good news for me i'm soo happy.
Here cople pics from omar sanchez that was injured and was shooting some pics from land thanks a lot for the pics.
Good to see all boys ripping out there again.

As you see i didnt compete this year, factor i fuck my knee during the first event of the year in the spanish cup, soo unlucky, i missed all year.But i will be back..
After two months doing a good recovery and a good terapic i'm almost 100% again, that make me happy.
Now looking foward to be back in the water and rip.....

Next 24 of June I will take part of the REDBULL Rockets,Here in Gran Canaria,wave event where they will score the highest jump,best combo move and best crash, it seems that its gonna be really good event.

Hello Friends

I'm sorry for being away all this time, many of you have probably been asking yourself where is Jonas, what has he been doing?

Well, Unfortunately i have a really bad news for the sport,or at least thats my point of view.

After 11 years being a pro windsurfer, (or trying to be pro) this year i'm forced to stop my windsurf career because i dont get any support.

This year i have had a lot of problems to get the minimun to do competitions and to survive.

Many of you where asking yourself why didnt i go to Cabo Verde this year, when i was on the top 9 and i had the opportunity to do better, Well ,,the answer is very hard to say and very sad, i didnt get paid on time.

Is not only that many top sailors are getting ridiculous salarys for whole year,,we dont even get it on time,,,how can we do normal life this way?

Many of us have a house to pay and lost of expenses that basic living has, beside all windsufing expenses,for me it has been very difficult get to the end of the year, every year during my windsurfing career, just because i spend almost all my budget on windsurfing, traveling around to get a better level and a job for my sponsor looking a for future and then when you are in the best moment in you career,, there are no changes.

Unfortunately this is our sport today.

For me this was a big emotional impact, it was just wrong!.I cant really understand why this was happening, i am a nice guy and besides this i have worked really hard on my image and also on the sponsors side.

Ive been for many years spending hours and hours on the water putting my life in risk just to revolutionize the sport making the sport big and nice, to get at the end of the day nothing back.

Im really sorry guys but i cant keep going, i was trying to contact different windsurfing brands but i had very bad answers and not even interest....i dont really know what to say here because everything is a big joke.

I think i already got a little dream come true on 2008 when i got the 3º place overall in wave discipline, something that many riders which have been on tour wish to have,,and even when you reach the top there is no change and everything going worst and worst.

Is sad to see how brands put eyes on people that cant even land most moves which you need to advance a couple of heats, or is sad to see how some people say that they are professional when they just get 2 boards and 3 sails and not even a budget to compete.or see a top guy that gets a ridiculous budget for the whole year.This is very sad to see in our sport.

Is very sad to see how nice this sport is, getting killed by many people who are supposed to do something for the sport and they are doing just nothing,, us the youth have been doing the impossible to revolutionize the sport with lot's of crazy moves that 10 years ago or even 20 were impossible. To think about the level, at this point its at highest stage ever and windsurfing is looking cooler than ever and this is how we get payed? i'm sure it can go further but not this way. We are the guys who move the sport but if we dont get supported, the sport will die very soon.

Its very funny because when i started windsurfing, brands wanted to support you saying: we now start with a small budget and if you do well we go bigger. What i have been doing is big enough, always being in the top ten, since i started competing , better results than a few big guys with big names that are still there and for me there has been no changes.

So looking back from the begining until now it makes me think about my future so i am thinking about something, the best option to survive is basically stop windsurfing and look for a job somewhere, or start studying to perform a real job.

I write this letter, you cannot imagine how bad i feel but is the reality, if windsurfing cannot give me what i deserve then forget about it.

I have a lot of passion for the sport and i think i have been showing it but I really cannot keep going with the same situation. Im just looking for somebody who can really support me and want to support the sport plus make the sport the best ever. But not this way.

It would be nice to know what you guys think, should i stop windsurfing or should i keep going?

I hope you undestand the situation....

Hi Friends

As i said i just arrived from fuerteventura but anfortunatly the event didn't happen because the wind didndt show up, we try our best to make it happen it but it was to light.We score one day in Caleta very nice windsurfing day but we coundt start the contest because the wind drops down.... but we had really nice waves there.
We score massive wave almost all period unbeliveable big more than 2 mast high wave,,one day some of the rider could make it to the outside of Puertito YANNICK,THOMAS ETC and cutch some big sets but wind was to light.
Fortunatly we had one day of tow in surf with some big wave together with Dario and the redbull jetski,very fun.

Overall impression, for me i was good to be there and meet some good friends,,we didnd compete but we had lot of fun and lot of wave around. Concept of this event is just very good for our sport and i hope to enjoy it many years more.

Im sorry for all this time away,,I has been busy and I just arrived from the FuerteventuraWaveClassic 2011.

Unfortunatly I have got this news begining of year from simmersails,they say they have to cut down budget and is why they can not renew my contrat. After more than 5 years working together is a very sad news to me because i think i been doing good,I havent seen that they didnt want to let it know soo I let it know,,,, from here i wish them good luck for future and thanks for the support all this time.......

Hello friends

I'm sorry for being all this time away,,,In europe i coundnt get internet to upload my blog....

Well,,the event in Denamark worked out so so,i got 9º position but i have to say that still few mistakes with the scoring, i dont know why is still happening,,,anyways still on the top ten.

When the event was done we did an expession session and i could reach the final heat winning my heat doing a pushloop into foward,,in the final i was looking for the same move but i dindnt got any good ramp to do it,i did a couple but not enought high soo i finished 4º.

Right after the event we move down to sylt, we spend 15 days there but we didndt scored.

Was not enought conditions for the wave sailors.

Still one more event soo will see whats gonna happen....

I'm back home now and after long time waiting for some wave finally we got some good luck with the conditions here at pozo, yesterday we scored a very big day,very fun for waveriding and jumping, it was not really strong,i was with 4'2 confident all time.

I have to say that he is very cool with the feets on grown.Normally meet this kind of people is very dificult,i was lucky...Good to see how people from canaries get to the top.

SPANISH CUP EL MEDANO 2010

Hello friends

I just arrived from tenerife,,I have had the 2º event of the spanish cup.

It was very good event with lot of people looking at the beach and a nice atmosfera with good conditions,,wind was a bit gusty but some nice waves.

On the sigle elimination i score 3º position Beating Marcos Perez in loser final but i have had the same problem with my foot,the cut under my foot got open again and it was very dificult for my sailing with the pain on my foot..

On the doble i woke up the day after and my foot was full of pain, I did try to keep my 3º position but i lose against my friend Alex Mussolini in a close heat soo i jump from 3º to 4º position.

I'm happy with the result still 2º on ranking and looking foward for the 3º event that maybe it will take place in Balears Island.

SPANISH CUP POZO 2010/CAMPEONATO ESPAÑA POZO 2010

Hello Friends

Right after the Pwa pozo event, we have had the Spanish Cup in Pozo during all weekend.

We scored same conditions as the pwa event,hot weather and gusty and some waves.

The Saturday we could finish the single elimination,i was sailing very consintant and confident,, before quarter finals i got a big cut under my foot and it was dificult to sail because my foot it was hurting so much but i was putting all my energy outthere to keep going and i could make it into the final and meet my friend Victor fdnz,In the final it was very dificult to find a good wave selection and my foot was not really helping me and victor took the victory but i was happy about how i was sailing.I also have to say that the level of every guys have been growing and it have been almost like a world cup,impresive about all young kids like Omar,Jose,Alessio,Moritz,Pablito and all pozo locals in genaral,wow, respect!!

On the doble elimination I woke up the day after and my feet was not better and i was thinking to do not compete because i coundnt even do walk but the head judged push me to go just to try ,the doctor at the beach put me some bendage and i decide to try just to see if i was available to sail,,On the semifinals i was against my friend and team mate Dario Ojeda who was climbing untill get the semifinal sailing very consistant beating all the youngs locals Eric and Aleix who was sailing amazing,Omar and Jose.
I was sailing with a lot of paint foot in this heat but in a really close heat i got 3 judged decition for me and two for Dario,soo i was available to keep my second place but i coundnt go sailing again on the final against Victor because i coundnt even walk.
Anyway i'm happy with the second place and i just hope to get better to be ready for the next spanish cup that will take place in Tenerife next weekend.
From here i would like to congrat Victor for wining and my team mate Dario for climbing untill get the podium,,,and for sure congrat all the new generation for their level,keep ripping....

Hello friends

We just finished the competition here in Pozo Izquierdo.This year i was not really lucky and i score 9º position in the end.
Conditions were a bit light this year, not much wave and wind was not really strong but at least we were lucky and we could finish the sigle and doble elimination and get the firts wave result of the year.
In the sigle elimination my friend and team mate Dario Ojeda beat me right before the quarter final,i was very unlucky with my waveriding but Dario was sailing good anyway on the sigle he could do the 3º place and reach the podium I congrat to him because was sailing good and consistant.
On the doble elimination i just was focused to go ahead i was sailing very confident in all my heats doing all heat with my head and very relaxed, everything was working good untill i did meed Ricardo Campello on a very close heat, I got a very good wave riding with couple takas on the same waves backsides and frontside turns and two good jumps and i got a very low score and i didnt make it.
I congrat also Ricardo for his 3º place in the doble, To Phillip who was ripping like hell outthere putting all his arsenal of tricks in every heats.
Also Congrat to Victor for his show and sailing,one more year he got the victory with a very good sailing.
Congrat to Dario also for his 4º place, in a very close heat against Ricardo fighting for the 3º place but unfortunatly Dario cound't make it but he was doing it good.
It have been very dificult all heats, everybody was ripping and the level have been growing from last year to this year, now i have to keep trainig for the next stop,in Denamark,I hope to do a good seasson this year.

I'm glad to announce I just sign with Tecnolimits Booms by the hand of owner Massimo Ravasio.
They had a new revolucionary boom called CONTACT, with a shock absortion and new head sistem,,I been sailing with it alredy and it is amazing the the feeling of the boom,how it works,It liberates many pressure in the mast when your sailing with the chops and jumping I had fantastic feeling during the leanding,, it make it more easier with not that much pressure in your hands,it is a fantastic Boom and revolucionary idea.You have to try it....

ITALY TOUR

Hello friends

I'm sorry that i coundn't upload my blog before,i was very busy traveling around Italy and it was hard to find an internet conection.Finally back home...

I'm very proud about all promotion a been doing around,I think i did more than 4.000 klm in 11 days,,,,
I finised my boards with Gianni Valdambrini and all crew,,I would like to thanks all of them for their determination. PIC 1)I'm very exited to test the new toys,,,
Soo my trip it was,,,I went from Pisa to Prato where the factory is,from Prato to bologna to go to the Adriatic sea by tren,,in the Adriatic sea my first stop was in Pesaro,then i when to Ancona (Senigallia)where Challeger sails made their sail,PIC2) because Claudio Badiali is the Italian Mistral Importer and i when there to pick up some promo postcards that Mistral International send to me.After this i started to visit some windsurfing shops and do some autografes all the way up from Ancona, Riccionni ,Rimini,Bergamo and Milan.
I got impresive about some nice cars around, in the pictures you can see one of them,,,not comment....
One funny thing it was,, i was walking down the street around Pesaro and I meet a funny guy Called Alberto,the thing it was,this guy saw somebody walking with a big logo of Mistral on the back(it was me)the guy is also windsurfer and when he got close to me he saw that it was me and it was very funny his reaction,,,I send him a big Hi from here.....
I also would like to thanks to Filippo family for their hospitality,i have to say his mom is an amazing cooker...

In Milan I also Was walking at the street and I did meet Milan F,C Explayer Alessandro Costacurta,I gave to him a postcard of mine and We talk a littlel bit,I told him that i'm also sportman and i told him if someday he goes to Canaries and he want to know what windsurfing is i can give him some advices,,,very cool guy you can see in the last picture.

I will keep you updated with some more news about what i been doing in Bergamo...

Also yesterday just arrived and straight to the water for the Simmer photoshoot with Dany Miquel as Photografer and friends and team mates Dario Ojeda and Klaas Voget We went to Ojos de Garza, wind was very gusty but i have had lot of fun,also i got a nice feeling with the new Iron sail 2011.

Today we wanted to shoot from the water but this morning it was not enought conditions,,,will see how it gets during the day...

SHAPING IN ITALY

Hello friends

I arrived last night to Pisa (Italy) and in the airport I did meet the shaper of Mistral and 99customboards(Gianni Valdambrini)he pick me up at 1:00 am at the airport and we when to bed quite late, what the sorprise when i arrive to Gianni's house i meet my team mate (simmersails) Francisco Porchela, he also was here working for some new boards.
Today we wake up at 8:00am and we when straight to the factory to work on my new boards,twinzer and quadfins.
We finished the shapes on the computer and we started to shape straight the way with the machine,,for tomorrow still lot of work but we are going in a really good way,At the moment the boards are looking killer,I have to say that Gianni really know what he is doing. I got very impresive with his job and how all the crew works...we gonna have killer results for sure.

The summer is around the conner and i can feel it.Winds and waves,,lot of turist around,locals, enjoing this great day.
It was Last Monday ,,,it was very dificult to sail confident because always had to whatch out to do not hurt anybody,, but anyway i have had lot of fun out there.And for sure i was not the onlyone who got fun,,,
I have to thanks to my friends Andy and Filippo for filming,, we got some nice clips.
I also just doing experiments editing with some watershots that I got with my watercam. I hope you like it....

Since the arrival of Anders Bringdal as the head of Mistral Boards we have only seen the boards on photo but never on the water. But now we have!
The new Twinzer Wave 82 has a double concave going into double concave inside a mono concave in front of the fins. It is produced in Vietnam, one of the few boards with AHD not to be produced in Cobra.
The construction was explained to us by Anders and sounds great. On the water the board was as stiff as it should without feeling uncomfortable. The board has a great sound while touching the water. After a series of big jumps not always well landed thanks to the strong gusts during the test the board did not move.
Using the 3,7 sqm in the Mistral wind blowing at 25 – 45 knots it was hard to tell how early the board got on to the plane. On the other side we really appreciated the control the board has even being that it is a bit bigger than what would be used in those conditions normally.
The board is very well balanced and has a great range.
On a straight line the board has great control and is fast. We did not feel as with many other twin fin boards that they drags water. It is a nice riding board that will even allow you to go fast upwind.
In the surf the Mistral shows its real strength, the board accelerates with the wave really well and allows you to push as hard as you like to get to where you want to go, but is still able to make smaller radical direction changes. The Maui Ultra fins seem to help the power and speed but also keep the board in control.
In side-on conditions, like during our test, the Mistral Twinzer accelerated well backside to be able to get around and hit the lip.
In the front side surf the rails engaged well and was easy to control, great point for such a volume board. In the turns you can feel the bottom shape working well. This Mistral can either be sailed heavily on the rails off your front foot to get to vertical or sailed more flat pushing on the back foot. The second option will give you a more reactive curve but with less power. It is great to be able to play with both ways of sailing.
In the top turn, the control and ease of use offered by this board, beside its volume, blew us away in the conditions we sailed in.
Early getting on to the plane and bigger sail testing will come later but this Twinzer 82 has left us with a great impression. Gold for now and will be a great choice for persons in the 80 kg range who is looking for a board that does it all 5,7-4,0 to be able to profit max from the conditions.
The board comes set up with Da-kine Primo straps and heels bumpers in the pads.

60 knots Wind,AMAZING

Hi Friends

Today we have had one of the strongest day of the year,60 knots of wind,it was a mission just to jibe,I was with my 3.3 totally overpowered,I was a bit sad because it was to flat and it was very dificult to find a ramp to do the a big, big jump.I was looking all session for it but i coundt find any good ramp,,I hope tomorrow it will be better.
I have to thanks to my friend Andy for these small videoclips at least he got somefootage of today,I just put them all together and here the result,i hope you like it...I hope to get some more action tomorrow.

Hi Friends

What a session this afternoon,,,it was just perfect,2 meters high wave totally glassy and clean right hand,,,lot of people in the water and every body was stoked because we dont use to see conditions like that really often,,I have to say that I'm very happy with my gear start to feel very confident with my new boards,,very nice botton turn and nice top turn super fluid and lot of speed.
I have to thanks to Dany Miquel for his greats pictures and for spending all the afternoon at the beach shooting photos and also for his comment on the cutre.com blog,,,,very good job for sure he got lot more,,,,,I will have a look on the next days,,,,I hope you like the pictures...

I just get back home for lunch after long session,today it was just increible to be true,,perfect 4'7 size sail and 2 meters waves on set,perfect down the line,,,here a picture of my last wave,,i was lucky that dany miquel was there and he could took the picture,,,i'm going again for a late session with low tide i think its going to be very fun...I had the feeling i was in Cabo Verde today wave has not that much power but very clean and 4 or 5 turns in a waves,,super stoked...

Today is really strong south-west wind but in the north shore is super flat best spot to go is Juan Grande is very chopy but is sailable maybe if wind keep pushing we will can sail in pozo with a very small wave,,sometimes its very fun even if it is very small.

I'm back home finally after almost a month around Fuerteventura and Lanzarote,, Last week it was not wind and small waves soo i didndt windsurf but i was with my girfriend doing some hollidays and also with my friend and manager Philippo visiting some nice spots around,it was very cool.
Very bad weather this morning when i woke up,, now is raining,, soo not much things to do,,for tomorrow it looks maybe we can have a session in the north shore with south west wind,,will see if it works or not...will keep you update,,

After really long 12 days of hard working I have a bit of time to relax and upload some nice pictures,yesterday it was the last day of shooting,we been really lucky as you can see,we score massive waves all the weekend with good wind for jumping and waveriding,now i'm exited to see the final result in the catalogue, im sure it will be fantastic.

Now I gonna spend couples days more here in Lanzarote and then on weekend i will move to Fuerteventura for some starboardtack sailing,I will let you know whats going on during the next days.

Here we are,, still working on the photoshoot in Lanzarote, has been very great at the moment,I can say that Im very stoke with the gear and also very happy about the relationship I have with Anders and Marketing Manager Mr.Prade,Its gonna be a great future...

Hello Friends

I'm very glad To announce that I will sign with mistral for the next season and hopefully for the rest of my carreer.

Anders

I am very happy to have Jonas on board. He has always been a bit of an hero for me since we spent some time sailing Pozo back in the late 90's.
We where both on our 3,7's and I was well powered. I was getting killed as it was really windy and I remember Jonas landing his back loops plaining in front of the wave he had just jumped!!! unreal.

Anyway, now with much more experience behind him I think that Jonas will do great for Mistral. he is a killer guy and will stay really close to the development of the new lines.
Look out for him in this years world cup as all competitions happens in conditions that he really does well in.
Being a Pozo Local Jonas will help push the limits not only on the designs but also on the ever so important construction.

I´ve been traveling a lot around the world in the last 5,6 years promoting my sponsors, improving and enjoying my sailing on both sides. Now I will be part of Mistral family, one of the biggest and perhaps the original pioneer for windsurfing brands. I'm very glad that I can be part of it, its going to be a big motivation for me. My plans for the next years is do my best and grow as a family with Mistral. My main goal is to bring some good results, put my soul into working with Anders Bringdal for the upcoming wave boards, with his experience and mine i think we can create a great wave line, thats for sure.

Now i have to pack Tomorrow Im going to Lanzarote,,I think we will start the Mistral Photoshoot there,,Tomorrow i hope to get my first pictures with my new Mistral toys.

The event this year was very fun,we didndt score the huge waves we scored last year but we score some good conditions down the line portack in La Caleta wind was light but enough to get to the point,,we competed two days and we could finish all rounds,everyone was on fire,,,

Here small video clip from my second day snowboarding,in the end was not too dificult,was easy get use to it and i start to look for virging snow and i went to this mountain,,this one was the first time in my life i did ride out of route with dust snow,just increible,feeling was soo good.Good thing it was that i didnt crash so much and everyday improving.

This clip is not really big thing for all of you who snowboarding,but i think is cool too see a guy like me, who live in a island where never do snowing, riding his first time .Its funny is like a baby with a new toy.

During all week I was snowboarding in Andorra with my girlfriend and her sister,brother and sister's boyfriend all together,we have had a very great time, a lot of virgin snow, something increible, also so much cold ,one day it was -22 degrees,that was the first time in my life that im in that much cold,, but it is always good get new experiences.Thanks to my girlfriend's mom who paid us the trip.Thanks a lot to her. For sure next year we go back again.

Yesterday it was very very good day better than the day before the waves were braking much better and it was also a littel bit bigger with 3'7 and 72lt very confident,,here small clip that my father got,,i hope you like it,,,im going to the water again right now still the massive waves are here and it look its gonna be like yesterday,,i dont want to miss it.

Hello friends

Yesterday massive swell arrive to Canaries,,,i have had a nice session in pozo untill almost night,,i was with 3'7 was good but the wind was super gusty because it was too north but some good sets sometimes,,today is raining but still some nice waves i will go now for another session i hope the wind dont will drop with the rain.

Yesterday i had had a funny session in the afternoon,it was a bit gusty but still strong with 3'7 and some small waves and very hot weather by the way.

Whatcha ridin Jonas?!

In this brand new series we’re checking out what the umi boys are riding and why. Kickoff is with Jonas Ceballos, who tells us all about his Seb Wenzel Fanatic shapes. Over to you Jonas!

‘This is my 78-litre board shaped by Sebastian Wenzel. It is about 231 cm long and 56 cm wide. I’ve been working on my boards a lot and we made some changes this year. This board has more rocker than before and we put some more double concave in the mono concave. We also moved the finboxes more forward. The rail we kept the same as my previous boards, they were working really well. When I tried this board the first time I was so stoked, it was exactly what I was looking for.’

Do you tell Sebastian exactly what you want to change on a board, or do you tell him what feeling you are looking for?
‘Normally I explain him what I want from the board and then we check what we can do to achieve that goal. I have my prototype boards and I only make small changes to them. Sebastian has his computer so all my designs are in there. If I like a board that he already has on his computer, we work with that basic shape but for instance with a different rocker and different concaves. Then he makes the board with his CNC machine, I try it and if it’s good we keep working on it. If it is not good we put it away and try again. Small changes every time.’

Are your boards much different from the ones Victor and Brawzinho are riding?
‘Yes, they are different. I was trying their boards on Maui, Brawzinho uses wider boards than me, because he’s heavier. His rails are also different, softer than what I have on my boards. His shapes were good, but a bit harder to turn; I was feeling more confident with my own shapes. Victor uses the same kind of boards as Brawzinho: softer rails and the same concaves.
‘This year in Maui we did an overall test with all our boards. The whole team said they felt very confident on my boards, they had a lot of speed and a really nice bottom turn. Some said the top turn was not really good. Maybe that was cause they couldn’t control it haha.’

What’s the difference between your boards and the Fanatic production boards?
‘My boards have more rocker and more concave than the production boards. For the production boards they make a mix. Say Klaas Voget is testing… he likes the rails I use, the bottom shape of Brawzinho’s board and the outline of Victor’s boards, they try out all these element to come up with the best shape. I don’t mix though, I never go for really big changes because I don’t know whether it is going to work or not. I have had my line since I started with Fanatic and when I feel good with something I prefer to make small changes, step by step.’

You switched from single to twin, do you still use single fins?
‘No, after I started using the twin fins I stopped using them. I sailed a single fin in Hawaii in springtime and I felt like it was not me sailing there. I felt like a beginner. A really strange feeling when you think that I rode single fins for a long time before, but the turns are really different. The single fins have more open long turns, whereas with this board here I can just kill it.
‘What I felt in the beginning is that with the two fins I had more drive on the wave, tighter turns and a better snap. The boards slash really easy, they don’t stick to the water, a very fluid ride.’

What about jumping?
‘I thought that with two fins I would be slow, but I feel I have the same speed for jumping. Besides that I have really good control before the take off, it’s perfect.’

You have your fins really to the front of the fin box, why is that?
‘Putting the fins to the front gives me more drive in the turns. Especially on the closer turns, when I push really hard with my feet. If I want to do three turns on one wave it is good to have this setup. It also gives me more control. I always use 16 cm fins on this board, they fit perfectly. The mast foot I put a bit to the front, I never really change that.’

Do you have a fixed distance between your footstraps?
‘Yes, I do but I don’t remember how much it is haha. This year I put them even further apart, like 2 cm extra for extra control.’

What do you think about quads?
‘I don’t know about them. A lot of guys are going for that now, but I don’t know if that is really the way to go. Maybe it is good for wave riding, but not everybody is able to really ride waves, you know?’

WINTER TIME IS HERE

Yesterday we had had a very good day,,,in the morning we had a nice windsurfing session up from pozo in Mosca point with 4.7 and 78lt,,,in the afternoon the wind drop and we had had a very good surfing untill night...i just can say that im very happy to live here always there is a sorprise.

WORLD CUP SYLT 2009

Hello friends,

I just got back home finally after long trip,another crazy year at sylt very stormy days and very dificult sailing,,during sigle elimination i had had not much luck i losed in the second round with very tricky conditions 5'0 and 78lt board ,,very onshore, but this gave me power to come back on the doble elimination.Doble was better i was feeling much more confident with the gear and the conditions 3'7 over power and 72lt,, i pass three rounds but in the fourth agains peter volwater i coundt score good waves for waveriding and the diference was minimun and peter beat me. Soo result 13º position world cup sylt 2009 and 12º wave overral 2009.
I can not say im happy about my result but i can say im very happy about my friend Alex Musso he was ripping and i would like to congratulate for his very good job...Well done Alex.Is very good to see that we all can be there.....
To finish i would like to thanks all my sponsors for supporting me one more year....

POZO AGOUST SESSION

4º PLACE PWA POZO 2009

Hello friends,,
Finally we are done,,pozo 2009 is finished,,unfortunatly i couldnt keep my 3º position in the doble,,i was against campello,it was a good heat but i was not happy with the judge waves scoring i was just ripping the waves even with 360º frontside,,i had a couple of good jumps but i have to say that i couldnt get any good ramp to do the massive jump i also have to say that i was with 3'7 during all my heat and i was in the begining of the heat just perfect a bit over power but good, with power,,in the middle of the heat the wind picks up and i was totally over power,,i looked my watch and i decided not to change for my 3'3 because i will loose 1 minute minimun because i was to downwind and klaas voget was doing cady for me and he was to upwind soo i just decided keep going with the 3'7,,i was totally over power with half meter more sail than campello, when normally it is the opposite but, im happy in the other side because it was tight heat and i sailed good,,,i would like to thanks all these people who has been at the beach pushing up for me and gaving me lot of motivation with their comments,,thanks a lot to my family and my girlfriend who also has been at the beach suffering even more than me,,,
I also would like to Congrat Phillip Koster he shows us than nothing is imposible with 15 years old and also he shows us an increible action out there,,amazing sailing Phillip,,,I also want to Congrat my team mate Victor Fdz he also was increible very good heat Victor,,,also Ricardo Campello i want to give him my congratulations for his 3º place he also was sailing really good and crazy like always,,,,and to finish Congrat to my friend Dario Ojeda he also was sailing very good and he made a fantastic 5º place.
I can not say im very happy about the result but im happy about my performance,, this year i have been training soo hard i was feeling good,,body in good shape and mentally very focus and positive a bit unlucky but it is good ,im back in the ranking and i'm looking foward for the next pwa event in sylt,,this year nobody knows what is gonna happen there....

Thanks a lot also all my sponsor,,Craig/Fanatic&Sebastian i have to say i have had just what i was looking for ,,amazing turny board with good botton turn and good top turn with speed and the most important increible the control i have with it,thanks a lot and really good job also.

Simmer&Tomas I havent got the new sails for the competition but that it was not a problem for me because i'm feeling soo confident with my 2009 mission x sails that i can not belive it sails are soo good even if you go over power is amazing the control i have jumping and waveriding,Thanks a lot guys and looking foward for the 2010 mission x sails.

Al360&Francesco and comp,,,Thank you very much for the booms you made ,,they're just amazing ,A good boom is also a good key to be safe when you do sail in top level.

Mystic&Max Thanks guys this is our first year and thanks a lot for wearing me with the perfects weetsuits and harnes,,i feel very confident.

PWA POZO SINGLE ELIMINATION IS DONE

Hello friends
Finally we finished the single elimination the conditions it wasnt that good but enought to finish it,,it was good for me but it could have been better,,i beat kauli in quarter final with a solid waveriding,i was feeling really confident with my gear and myself and next heat i did meat koster, fighting to go to the final,,this heat it was very very close i have had really good waverinding connecting tricks from out all the way in 360º front sides 360º backsides,takas,etc,,,i was looking for a great doble but i coundnt get any good ramp to make a clean doble and the diferences was minimun,,this gave me power to keep going on the loser final agains my friend dario ojeda,,i have to say he did it really good this year and im happy for him well done¡¡,,,this heat i was sailing with my heart and i just had a nice heat with very strong waveriding conecting tricks in almost all my waves with very solid jumping,,im happy about the result the level is crazy and is very hard to be on top,still running it is not finish yet and im motivate to keep going foward,,looking foward for great conditions ,,3'3 and big waves to show all my skills and fly like hell,,jeje
congratulatios to Phillip Koster he was just amazing,,also to my team mate Victor fdz He was very solid like always,hehe.

Today we start with the second round of the single elimination,,conditions have been up and down specially in my heats ,,soo lucky,, like always,jeje but today it was better than last year at least,i'm in quarter final feeling good and in my last heat i beat my friend vidar jensen,, i took the revanch of the 2003 pozo event,jeje,feeling good for tomorrow,,next heat is agains kauli,,will put all my skills,,,

Here we go,,today has been the strongest day of the year and it looks that is gonna be strong for the next couple days,victor was there,kauli was also there,my brother ,Dario ,etc today it was a great show for sure,,i'm feeling very confident in the water even with the 3.3 and my new fanatic twizer 72lt ,,,yes guys 72lt,i use it because is my new toy and it is amazing the control i had even with 10lt extra,dont want to know how will work my new small board 68lt,,will get it on suterday,,looking foward for it,,,will see if we have this conditions for the contest time,,,thanks a lot to dani miquel for the pictures...hope you like it.
