Just got back from the first stop of the Student surf tour
Porthcawl in Wales.
Sam Coad got the win in waist high clean surf
I got knocked out in the semis but managed to get
the "Show Up and Blow Up" prize money presented by Globe Europe!!

Tuesday we went to surf Porthleven.
Overhead waves peeled through-out the morning, sharing the line-up with one of the UK's
best surfers, Ben Skinner.
then we went to surf fun and clean Praa Sands...

Small Road Trip

Friday drove up with the surf team to surf and stay around Croyde area,Tried my first cornish pasty and I cant get enough of them, good post-surf meal, warm and with a lot of substance!
Saturday went to check out a south coast swell, so drove all the way down to Porthleven and after a Red Bull fueled road trip, I got to surf it for the first time! A bit small but fun nonetheless, waiting for new swell soon so might be going there again very soon...

Dårlige knær og SUP

Lenge siden oppdatering nå! Har vært en travel vinter med jobbing og besøk i Norge. Jeg har også slitt med to dårlige knær. Har fått påvist langdistansekne. Dette vil si illiotibial bånd/sene på utsiden av lår gnurer over kneknokkel og blir betent. Første gang jeg merket det var i påsken. Desverre ikke blitt mye windsurf den siste tiden grunnet dette. Har nå gått i over en måned til fysio, jobbet med tøyning og styrke, og fokus på rett fottøy etc. Før helgen var jeg hos idrettslege og fikk pumpa inn litt kortison i knæra. Håper dette tar knekken på betennelsen..

Men en positiv ting har dårlig knær medført. Jeg har fått dilla på stand up paddle! Sykt festlig!! Har kjøpt meg en Naish Mana 9.5". Perfekt å lære basicen på. Har man litt erfaring med longboard er overgangen grei.

Helgetur til Coronation beach i Geraldton leverte så det holdt!! To dager og mangfoldige timer med god trøkk og fine ramper! Super nice spot med flat vann for freestyle på innsiden, krappe ramper for hopping på vei ut og side-on bølger på vei inn...

Klumpfot og infeksjon

Jeg har i det siste hatt en underlig smerte på oversiden av venstrefoten ved fotstroppen. Det har også nå vokst frem en klump med noe deilig veske inni... Tror jeg lekker i senene ned til tærne. Noen som har førstehåndserfaring med lignende??

Jeg har også ett kjedelig sår på kneet etter en misslykket duck'ing av seilet som medførte skrubbing langs grippen på brettet i 20 knop. Vil rett og slett ikke gro:-(

En super dag i Lancelin igår! Ikke veldig mye vind så gikk utpå med 6.1 og freestylewave 92. Vinden tok seg etterhvert opp men var helt perfekt å ha god power! Bølgene var opp i logo høyde så det var greit å ikke bli fanget på innsiden med for lite kraft i seilet. Det var også mye mindre folk ute en vanlig. Antagelig har de fleste turistene dratt hjem. Mange ventet også på at det skulle ta seg mer i opp. Helt perfekt for min del! Jeg kunne plukke det jeg ville av bølger uten å måtte ta hensyn til andre. Fikk 2.5 time før høyvannet gjorde bølgene litt for avrundet.

Shoveit into Vulcan

Det som i utgangspuktet startet som shove-it trening endte opp som shove-it-into-kaste-seg-rundt. Greide liksom aldri å holde meg selv igjen på den rette siden og forsvant rundt seilet. Etterhvert dreit jeg i å prøve å holde meg igjen og bare lo det stå til. Har lenge forsøkt å seile ut av den igjen og plutselig greide jeg det! Utrolig lættis! SHOVE-IT INTO VULCAN!! Satte den to ganger men greide ikke få de føkkings føttene ut av stroppene andre gangen. Trixet med å sette sliden (og spesielt det å få tak i seilet på ny tack) er å nappe seilet hardt opp vertikalt samtidig som man roterer rundt etter shove'en. Jeg tror også det er smart å ha maximum 4.8 i starten.

Ellers så har det vært en bra "sommerferie" i julen. Hadde besøk av Martin og han fikk prøvd sitt nye utstyr. "Desverre" var det en hetebølge som startet da Martin kom og gjorde at vinden mistet litt av puffen. Rundt juleaften var det bedre. Fikk da øvd Grubby og har satt endel av de. Desverre eier jeg ikke konsistent seiling og sliter noe jæ..li å sette mer en maks ett par trix hver gang jeg seiler (om jeg er heldig...) Håper dette bedrer seg! Clew First Spock begynner også å sitte litt. Syntes egentlig denne er lettere en vanlig Spock. Sliter med det føkkings seilskiftet som vanlig...

Nå er det helg og håp om litt mer surfings!

5 m Hvithai !!!!

Litt halvguffent her om dagen! Jeg var å windsurfet med ett par andre karer på ett rev i Shoalwater (utenfor Point Peron i Rockingham for de mer kjente). Vi sto på land etterpå å fleipet med at det sikkert var mye hai rundt krabbetegnene på revet (fullstappet av åte). Dagen etter kunne vi lese i avisen at en mann var drept av hai bare ett par km lenger sør i Safety Bay (Port Kennedy) og at den 5 meter lange hvithaien (....) også var observert der vi seilet men senere på dagen. Mannen er enda ikke funnet. Sønnen var vitne til at han ble tatt og det hadde ikke vært noe hyggelig syn. Utrolig sørgelig! Holdt også på å gå galt på østkysten her om dagen da en diger hvithai overrasket en gjeng med kajakpadlere.

Men men... vi så ingen hai i Lancelin idag, men jeg var temmelig rask på vannstarten (hadde faktisk gått haialarm like sør for Lano også idag....). Mari orket bare å seile en tur frem og tilbake før hun fikk hetta.

Litt bedre temp på julesurfen iår! Fikk ett par bra timer på vannet før ribbe og hjemmelaget surkål sto på menyen. Laure Trebaux SUI-4 (Nummer 3, 2008 PWA freestyle kvinner) dukket også som vanlig opp for litt freestyle pushing og kastrering av alle mannlige "hardcore" seilere på vannet...

En liten rapport fra ukens førjulssurf. Det hele startet med tre 4.8 dager på elva mandag, tirsdag og onsdag forrige uke. Fikk trent bra fristil og fikk øvd på litt nye ting. Torsdagen måtte jeg ha en pause og dro ut på byen med en ny kollega. Fredag var det pån igjen men denne gangen i Safety Bay. Det stedet er helt sykt bra for freestyle! Idet man kommer inn bak sandtungen er det 100% paddeflatt! Trodde tidligere i høst at jeg hadde funnet "den hellige gral" men nå som sommeren er her har det også begynt å bli litt mer seaweed enn hva som er gøy... Man må enten gå av brettet eller seile litt fin first for hver runde man tar. Utrolig irriterende men det hele er glemt idet man er inne på flata. Uansett, jeg fikk kjørt på bra denne dagen også. Helgen bød på en slapp dag i bølgene på bystranden Dutch Inn (Cottesloe) på Lørdagen. Søndag var det for svak vind. Idag (Mandag) har jeg hatt nok en konge dag i Lancelin. Største bølgene her nede så langt (logo i de største settene) og lite folk ute. Resten av juleuken ser heller ikke så værst ut... Livet er herlig:-)

Endelig en skikkelig uke med solgangsbris trøkk!?!? Får bare håpe varselen holder seg og sjefen lar meg dra litt før fra jobb... Ligger en lavtrykksrygg like inn i landet som kan sette en stopper for morroa, men jeg er jo en født optimist...

Safety Bay

Herlig dag i Safety Bay!! Overleppa var relativt sår etter gårsdagens nærkontakt, men la på ingen måte noen demper på dagen! Parkett forhold bak sandtungen som strekker seg ut i bukta. Sjoppissen jeg kjøper utstyr av er vistnok på godfot med Neil (Pryde) og forsøker å få PWA konk her... Får se hvordan det går:-) Men for all del en utrolig bra spot!! Ikke la dere lure av full suit'en min (25-30 grader i lufta). De fleste seiler i shorts, men jeg liker å være skikkelig varm... Tror jeg kan dra frem shortsen snart...

Spock trening i chop, totalt overrigga, glassmanetsuppe, og seaweed til den store gullmedalje, førte til en liten trøkk i trynet. Trodde først tenna var gått (da blodet spruta), men fastslo raskt at det var leppa/nesa som hadde tatt støyten på karbongrepet...

Fyllesyk i Lancelin

Julebord fredag, Lancelin lørdag formiddag.... Ett par bilder fra idag. Ikke så store bølgene (ca 1.5m) men likevel noen bra sett. Twinzer'n blåste av taket og må på rep.. Bedre lykke i morgen:-)

Første wave session i Lancelin!

Hadde min første dag i Lancelin idag! Har tatt litt tid å komme seg opp dit pga skiftene vær og vind i November. Har vist vært den kaldeste og våteste November på mange herrans år!! Typisk min uflaks... Men det var vært å vendte på!! Idag var det 2-3 meter bølger og 12-14 ms. Begynner å komme litt (...) inn i bølge seiling. Utrolig gøy!! Har vært mye seiling på elven i det siste! Godt å endelig komme seg ut i bølgene igjen.

Cervantes Speed Trial 2008

Kom nettopp hjem fra en langhelg til Cervantes 3 timer nord for Perth. Annledningen var Cravantes Speed Trials 2008. Eller det vil si det var annledningen til de ca 100 personene som dukket opp på arrangementet. Min plan var å finne litt bølger eller flatvann og kose meg litt for meg selv... Dette skjedde da altså ikke.

Etter å ha lompa rundt i speed løypa i ca halv hastighet av alle andre på freestyle brettet, fikk jeg beskjed om at dette ikke gikk ann... ("Er ingen som seiler slik fristil i WA") Fikk derfor låne slalom utstyr og ble med i konkurransen. Seilet var en NP Hellcat 6.7 og brettet en JP Slalom 70 liter (psyko fjøl!!!) Brettet veier 4.9 kg og er vist ferrarien innen speed.. Litt uvant i starten men fikk snart fart på flisa! Det hele endte med at jeg seilte inn til 7 høyeste hastighet av i overkant 60 deltagere! Hastigheten min var 28.5 kn. Greit, det er ikke den høyeste speeden i historien, men i opp til en halvmeter chop og gusty forhold var det så fort jeg tørte å pushe. Det hører også med at raskeste seiler klokka 30.5 kn. Altså ikke så jækla mye mer enn meg! Seilerne forran (og bak) meg seiler også aktivt speed/slalom på nasjonalt nivå. Jeg må si meg veldig fornøyd med egen innsats (dvs livet...) og vurderer å skifte gren... (Neida, skal ikke det men gøy med litt forrandring)

Gnaraloo trip 2008

Back from the best windsurf trip of my life!! 7 days in a row of windsurf with average winds around 20 kns. The sun was shining every day and temperatures of about 30 degrees. We went with about 25 other surfers from around Perth and stayed at Gnaraloo Station homestead. A bit more "luxary" than staying at 3 mile camp. The surf was mainly done in Gnaraloo bay. Tombstones was a bit to heavy for me at the moment but I will come back one day... Instead we sailed waves in Shark alley about 500 m offshore the coast. The reef is a lot less crowded than tombstones, but the waves where great!! The last day I had my best day on the water in my hole life!!! 2 m super clean waves with 20 kns sideshore. I was smiling all the 1100 kms back to Perth yesterday.... The trip also consistet of a lot (!!!!!) of beer, BBQ, nice people, whale watching, giant turtles, red back spider in my wet suit (...), reef sharks, road kills, kengeroos and stingrays.

Strong winds today with a powerful low pressure system hitting Western Australia! The first couple of hours the wind averaged between 38 and 44 kns with gusts of 50+ kns... When the system passed the wind dropped to about 25 kns and the sun also appeared. I am still struggeling with my body after a week of being stuck in bed with fever. Only got a about half an hour on the water this day.
