I asked RRD rider Sofien Sehiri to show some vulcans this Tuesday. There was very little wind, I am amazed he planed at all. (Clip that can be scrubbed frame-by-frame, with the full set of moves, is here – download and use a desktop video player).

War-at-sea gusty, sweet rolling swell rides on the outside. 4.7/84L wave. Then quite holey for my kit – I quit after persevering for 40 minutes. Bloody cold, too. This is an official kick-off, though – get your sails from your attic or the season will end too soon!

I was making a 6x slow-motion of Kevin Kan’s shove-its, so I and my buddies could study it. I could not resist the urge to slap a music and run it at full tilt. If you look at the time counter, he was cranking one every 4 min on average

Seeing on WRAMS a promise of improbable winds at this time of year, I promptly took a day off. Although 30kt average did not materialize, I was able to sail my 84L wave (and tack it twice). Never mind his messed up ankle, Kevin Kan delivered quite a performance. Team Crushpad (Dave) showed Aaron a [...]

Deceptive winter wind pattern, never mind the date. Got stuck waterstarting on the outside with some chop and little wind. Then it came up with a vengeance, I could only get couple of reaches with the kit that I rigged. Hey, it’s spring now and there are no excuses to keep sails dry anymore!

Here is how I compressed this amazing Giampaolo’s video:
Premiere Elements Shadows/Highlights filter (enable remove flicker in clip’s field options)
Sometimes it is worth to add just little bit of sharpen filter too, but not in this case

Mencoder to encode [...]

I don't like to wash my wetsuit. This is usually the last step after wrap-up and it involves taking suit from the bag, going to backyard, hosing it inside out and the carrying it back to dry. Really kills your mood after the session.

Yes, I sailed on nuclear Saturday. No I didn't film, afraid to puncture the sail, as
happened once already. At the end (3 reaches) I still made a hole in it, but I doubt I would think of aiming the camera that day :)
This is the day after, laid back and comfortable on 5.8 (if you don't count frostbitten fingers).
